Govee's Matter-enabled smart lamps do more than just dazzle
Most of the long and thin smart floor lamps we've tried are all about casting bold splashes of color on the wall, perfect for setting a mood but not must help when it comes to reading, dining, or getting something done. But with its new line of Matter-enabled lamps, Govee hopes to bring the dazzle without forgetting the productivity. Govee already has several floor lamps in its portfolio, including two that we've reviewed, the Govee Floor Lamp Pro and the Floor Lamp 2. We admired both lamps, which have long, thin, stick-light designs that cast multicolored and even animated light on your walls. But while both lamps can serve up eye-catching color scenes, they're not really designed for illuminating your reading nook or dining table. With its trio of new floor lamps, Govee is trying something different.
'They're looking for something': rumors abound over unsettling drone sightings in New Jersey
Kyle Breese, 36, works remotely in insurance and lives in Ocean Township, New Jersey, a sleepy suburb with tree-cloaked streets, not far from beaches. Last Saturday night, with his wife and two kids inside their home, he let out his ageing dog Bruce into the backyard and then looked up. There, in the sky, was an unmistakable floating object. Not high enough to be a planet or a star, but about the elevation of an aircraft. "It's not an airplane that's just hovering there," he described.

Mystery of bizarre drones over New Jersey deepens after new footage of UFOs emerge
New footage of multiple eerie'triangle' craft flying above New Jersey has only compounded the mystery for locals. At least five or possibly six of the unidentified drones were captured in the new, 50-second cell phone video, which one commenter declared was'the clearest video yet.' One drone, heard roaring in the skies as it moved through the darkness, appeared to have a cluster of white lights on its underbelly and red lights blinking at the tips of its wings and tail. Another drone came into frame that resembled a classic'black triangle' UFO or the triangular TR-3B, which beamed bright white lights from its nose, wingtips and tail. Since mid-November, a wave of unexplained drone sightings above central Jersey has left both law enforcement and the general public watching the skies, hunting for clues on what these mysterious night flights might be.

Red, yellow, green…and white? Study claims adding a fourth traffic light colour could make congestion a thing of the past
But the days of getting stuck in congestion could be a thing of the past - if cities added a fourth colour their traffic lights. That's according to researchers from North Carolina State University, who found that delays at junctions could be reduced by more than 25 per cent by adding a'white' signal. Instead of simply stopping or going, this signal would tell autonomous vehicles to figure out their own way across while human drivers simply follow the car in front. Co-author Dr Ali Hajbabaie said: 'This improves travel time, fuel efficiency and safety for all of the cars on the road.' Scientists have proposed adding a new traffic light colour which uses autonomous vehicles to reduce traffic.

Should a fourth light be added to traffic signals for autonomous cars?
Kurt "The CyberGuy" Knutsson explains how to save money on gas. What do you think of a fourth traffic light color being added to traffic signals for self-driving vehicles to help control traffic flow? I get that one day a bunch of connected autonomous cars may outnumber human beings behind the wheel. The thing is, it would tick me off to no end if somehow traffic lights allowed driverless cars an advantage over those driven by you and me. Peace by Hampton BR30 LED Wi-Fi smart bulb review: An affordable color floodlight, if you don't mind getting four
If you're looking for a bargain-priced smart floodlight that doesn't require a hub, the new Peace by Hampton BR30 Smart Wi-Fi bulbs might fit the bill--provided you're willing to pay for a four-pack. One of the first three devices in Hampton Products's new Peace by Hampton product line, this easy-to-install BR30 smart bulb connects directly to your Wi-Fi network, and it boasts robust automation tools, along with support for Alexa, Google Assistant, and Siri. That said, vacation and sleep/wake-up routines are missing, and while the manufacturer says they can be used indoors or out, they're not bright enough to qualify as security lighting. The Peace by Hampton smart line currently includes two lighting products: an A19 multi-color bulb and the BR30 multi-color floodlight that's the subject of this review. A Peace by Hampton smart plug (see our review) is also available.
Projecting Trouble: Light Based Adversarial Attacks on Deep Learning Classifiers
Nichols, Nicole, Jasper, Robert
This work demonstrates a physical attack on a deep learning image classification system using projected light onto a physical scene. Prior work is dominated by techniques for creating adversarial examples which directly manipulate the digital input of the classifier. Such an attack is limited to scenarios where the adversary can directly update the inputs to the classifier. This could happen by intercepting and modifying the inputs to an online API such as Clarifai or Cloud Vision. Such limitations have led to a vein of research around physical attacks where objects are constructed to be inherently adversarial or adversarial modifications are added to cause misclassification. Our work differs from other physical attacks in that we can cause misclassification dynamically without altering physical objects in a permanent way. We construct an experimental setup which includes a light projection source, an object for classification, and a camera to capture the scene. Experiments are conducted against 2D and 3D objects from CIFAR-10. Initial tests show projected light patterns selected via differential evolution could degrade classification from 98% to 22% and 89% to 43% probability for 2D and 3D targets respectively. Subsequent experiments explore sensitivity to physical setup and compare two additional baseline conditions for all 10 CIFAR classes. Some physical targets are more susceptible to perturbation. Simple attacks show near equivalent success, and 6 of the 10 classes were disrupted by light.

4 things you need to know before buying a smart light bulb
If you want to dip your toe into the world of smart home tech, the easiest place to start is with smart light bulbs. Broadly speaking, they're easy to setup and use, come with enough features to give you a sense of what's possible, and run the range of affordable and simple to expensive and complex. But there are still some questions as to how useful or necessary smart light bulbs are. After all, it's just a light bulb, how revolutionary can they be? Well, I just wrapped up testing a whole bunch of new smart bulbs to find the best right now and learned plenty along the way.
